Business Spotlight: B&B Riverfront Hall

B&B Riverfront Hall
As part of our series to spotlight local downtown Miamisburg businesses and provide facts and information that you may not be aware of. This week our spotlight is on B&B Riverfront Hall.

About Us
We welcome you to B & B Riverfront Hall, which is located on Main Street in quaint and historical downtown Miamisburg, Ohio. You will be welcomed to the facility through the charming courtyard that is nestled among the historical buildings, and then will be pleasantly surprised by the grace and charm offered at B & B Riverfront Hall.

Our Mission
We are a family-owned business that takes great pride in our facility and we pay attention to every detail to ensure that the hall is clean and ready for your event. You will be dealing with the “Owners” when you book your event at B&B Riverfront Hall, and we will provide you with a fair and honest experience.

The staff at B & B Riverfront Hall is here to serve all of your needs, providing you personal service from the beginning to the end of your event. B & B Riverfront Hall has been privileged to host weddings and receptions, anniversary parties, birthday parties, dances, reunions, gospel groups and entertainers.

Our goal is to make your “special occasion” just that.

Our History
B & B Riverfront Hall was originally a “square dance hall” boasting over 3000 sq. ft. floating oak dance floor and can easily accommodate your party of 250 persons with adequate room to “dance the night away.”

B & B Riverfront Hall was purchased in 2005 and we chose the name of B & B Riverfront Hall after our daughters, Brooke and Bailey, along with the fact that we are located on the Great Miami River.

Business Spotlight: English Manor Bed & Breakfast

English Manor
The English Manor Bed and Breakfast is a beautiful 1920’s Tudor mansion located on a tree-lined street in the heart of quiet Miamisburg, Ohio. There’s a relaxed elegance of this stately home, which is graced with red oak polished floors, leaded and stained glass windows and Rookwood fireplaces. Every room is appointed with antiques and period furnishings, and a sweeping staircase leads up to spacious bedrooms and baths. You can curl up by a fire in the living room with a glass of wine, “tickle the ivories” on the baby grand piano, or just relax in your comfortable bedroom.

Miamisburg, a sleepy town founded in 1818, is just nine miles south of Dayton and minutes from shopping, fine restaurants, a scenic bike trail, golf, baseball, antiques, museums and much more.

HISTORY
English Manor was created in 1924 by William Schieble, a wealthy toy manufacturer who helped build the town of Miamisburg. William’s father Benjamin and his mother Rebecca operated the Schieble Hotel in Dayton before moving to Miamisburg in 1881. Once here, Benjamin managed the Miami Hotel and later owned a grocery store. Son William was one of 11 Schieble children and went to work for a toy manufacturer in Dayton in 1904. He started the Schieble Toy & Novelty Company in Dayton and manufactured all kinds of friction toys. His booming business employed 100 people.

He built English Manor (known simply then as the Schieble House) in the Tudor style and joined “millionaire’s row” of mansion-type homes on Linden Avenue. He and his wife had three children, and based on family photographs, we know his grandchildren also enjoyed the rambling house. Two other prominent Miamisburg families lived in the house before it was converted to a Bed and Breakfast in 1992.

THE OWNERS
Julie and Larry Chmiel are certainly not unaccustomed to the hospitality business. Julie managed hotels for the last thirty years, as well as managing the catering at the Dayton Convention Center for 8 years, and has worked along side some of the finest chefs in the area Larry has enjoyed being in the wine distributing business for the last 30 years. And like the Schieble family his father also owned grocery stores, while his mother ran a catering business.

Here’s a little more information about Great Miami Outfitters:

About Us
We are an independent, family owned and operated small business that opened our doors in May 2007. We carry the highest quality gear and apparel, usually only found in outdoor specialty stores. We are constantly evaluating our inventory to ensure that our customers have access to new products on the market.

Our Mission
Great Miami Outfitters is a premier supplier of outdoor gear and apparel for outdoor enthusiasts in the greater Miami Valley, while being an information resource of area outdoor activities and facilities. Our staff is passionate about the great outdoors. We are knowledgeable about outdoor activities and the products we sell. Our enthusiasm and knowledge helps our customers enjoy the great outdoors with the right gear!

Where is our store located?
In the quaint and historic downtown City of Miamisburg, of course. We’re located in a historic circa 1860s building, originally built as the Miami Hotel. We’re close to the river and recreation trail, and only a few miles from the Twin Valley Backpack Trail – a 22-mile backpacking loop between Germantown and Twin Creek MetroParks.

Why is our name Great Miami Outfitters?

Our name is all about our location. We’re located in southwestern Ohio where the Great Miami River is located. The Great Miami originates upstream from Indian Lake and flows southwest to its confluence with the Ohio River, west of Cincinnati.

The watershed includes the Great Miami, Stillwater and Mad rivers; and is known for its water supply, recreation and high-quality streams. We believe it is one of many under-used natural assets of the region, and we’d like more people to enjoy the area’s outdoor amenities.
